Peter, the local "Breadbaker par Excellence." Baking bread is one of the most basic skills of our civilization. Yet many of us don't know how to do it! Learn how to knead a basic bread. You'll get a recipe and take home a small sample. The bread baking workshop is part of our ongoing series of "reskilling" classes. In the past 50 or so years of energy surplus, we have eagerly outsourced many of the basic skills of everyday living. As we enter the post-petroleum age, we learn we will no longer be able to do this for a variety of reasons which range from economic constraints to transportation constraints under peak oil. We discover that we must quickly reacquire skills that our grandparents and great grandparents knew so well. Bring an apron, or come dressed to work with flour. $5 materials fee, although no one will be turned away for lack of funds. The class begins with a review of the chakra system followed by a series of breathing exercises (see Pranayama class for more detail) to help the practitioner transition into a light trance state. From there we collectively choose a Power Animal to visit on the journey. While the journey is collective the information you will receive is specific to you. The class ends with chakra rebalancing and a voluntary discussion of the journey. It is a gentle introduction to the power of shamanic healing, a great way to part the veils of illusion, and an intimate way of bonding with your spiritual community.

Vegetable Gardening series. We'll be talking about how intensive
plant spacing can increase your vegetable yields.
In the Community Garden, we used the intensive plant spacing of John
Jeavons. We'll also talk about the square foot gardening method of
Mel Bartholomew.
We'll begin at 9am in the Community Hall, the brick building near the
Community Garden. 6700 W. 83rd, Westchester (LA 90045). Classes are
open to all. There is no charge; we encourage you to bring canned
goods for donation to LAX food pantry.
WORK TOGETHER DAY
Some of the skills of growing food we can learn intellectually in a
classroom, but other skills are better learned hands-on, from one
gardener to another. Immediately following the garden class, we will
hold a "Work Together Day" in the Garden (10:30am till interest
wanes). In our "Work Together Days" you get to work alongside
garden veterans in the Community Garden and learn how it is done.
On Mar 21 we'll be grading the new herb bed area in front of the
Community Hall. We'll install edging and mulch the paths. Over in
the main Community Garden area, we'll remulch the paths, as well as
continuing to distribute fresh, live, homemade compost into the
growing areas. We have projects lined up for our junior volunteers as
well. Come and join the fun!
FRUIT HARVEST PROGRAM
Also on Mar 21, you can get updates about our pilot Fruit Harvest
program in Westchester. We will have forms available to register your
fruit tree. Volunteer teams are planning to canvass the neighborhood
in the near future, to tell our neighbors about the program. Details
